Visited the Abercrombie House while in Bathurst looked really grand driving up the driveway. Heaps of family history inside, $15 entry fee goes towards the upkeep which I feel is lacking needs a good dust, tidy up inside and the gardens could certainly look better. Have visited better and paid less.

We went on a tour of Abercrombie House with Ian Redpath of Bathurst Tours. Ian is so knowledgeable. He took us into nearly every room in the house as well as did a tour of the stables etc. Ian knew just about everything there is to know about the history of this beautiful property. There are a lot of steps... More

The exterior of this old building is amazing, unusual and well renovated. The garden and views are wonderful. I can imagine it costs lots of money to keep it going. The interior is like a rabbit warren with creaking floors, worn carpet and a myriad of staircases. The mismatch of furniture and ornaments keeps it interesting and I can't imagine how... More

The building itself is quite spectacular with a rich history. However, the building and the grounds have not really been maintained very well. There were a lot of cobwebs, dust and the garden is in a bit of a state, not really worth the $15 per person admission.

Reasonably large historic houses are hugely expensive to maintain and the family whose home it is are to be greatly admired for pulling this one back from almost certain ruin and dereliction. I'm sure they will be the first to admit they still have a long way to go but this is still a little gem of a property. It... More

It has taken a long time for me to visit this place but now that I have I want to tell everyone that this is a 'must see' venue when visiting Bathurst. There are few homes like this that are open to the public and the history of the place and the ongoing work the family are putting into it... More

This was a grand old house with plenty of character. Unfortunately the family really haven't maintained the premises. I am sure there a plenty of stories to tell but really in this day and age when charging as they do, they really should be putting back into the property. Sorry, but I was sorely disappointed.

I was with a group of 40 and we were all entranced by Chris Morgan's telling of the history of the place. He spoke with great warmth and obvious love and determination to continue the task of preserving such an important part of our history. The 50 room house (castle?) is amazing and filled with extraordinary furniture, pictures, and of... More

Grand 19th century house brought back from disrepair by the current owners' family. A very interesting and lovely place that you can walk through for a reasonable fee. There is information to read on the history and details of many of the rooms, throughout the house. Lots of artwork, photos, collections and memorabilia. We were fortunate in being able to... More
