Old Dubbo Gaol is a state heritage listed must see. This remarkably complete and intact gaol operated for 119 years from 1847 to 1966 and is still nestled in the main street of Dubbo. This set of 19th and 20th century gaol buildings create a pocket in time, and the experiences within brings history to life. This regional gaol is representative of powerful, surprising and dark moments in Australian prison history. We house important collections such as the hangman's kit and gallows, and unforgettable experiences such as the dark cells and the bird's-eye view from the watchtower. With guided tours, night tours, and theatrical experiences on offer, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a rare piece of history open to explore.

The prison is set up so it is easy to walk around, and has many interactive things to see. I enjoy history so for me it was a fabulous experience. I think children would love the interactive displays as well. I was unable to stay for the tour but I feel that it would have added to the experience. I... More

Interesting .. need at least 2 hours to go through everything. Bit tucked away and entrance from street is a bit "ordinary'. Entry is free for locals only. Suggest that if Council wants to encourage tourist visitors, either make it free for tourists also or gold coin donation.

We spent around an hour at this historical site with beautiful buildings. It was very interesting with many interactive displays. It is worth visiting this amazing place that takes you back a step in time. Not as big as I originally remember as a child.

The old Gaol gives you a glimpse into a time when things were harsh. It was interesting to see. Some of the manikins are not working but there is a lot of work being done to modernize the way they take you back in time. Overall it is well worth a visit.

Great display of local history. Staff were informative and helpful. Buy a bottle of Dubbo Dust to support the local Lions 🦁Club.

One of the few places where you can get to see how hard it was to be a guest of her Majesty for any length of time, but can thankfully get out without good behaviour. Take the kid's, as it is a real eye opener, especially to the wayward ones, as to how hard " The Big House" can be,... More

We really enjoyed our visit, we did a twilight tour which was fun and we learnt a bit too and it came with entry for the next day so we could have a better look during daylight but it's quite small and you'd probably only spend 1-2 hours there

We spent a couple of hours here this morning. It was really interesting. My 7 year old loves the solitary confinement room.
