Nobbys Lighthouse sits high on Nobbys Headland guarding the entrance to Newcastle Harbour. It has been an active lighthouse for over 150 years and continues to safely direct ships in and out of Newcastle harbour. The site is an iconic landmark at well-loved location in Newcastle. The Nobbys Lighthouse grounds are open every Sunday from 10am to 4pm and entry to the site is free. Parking is located adjacent to Nobbys Beach at Camp Shortland. The lighthouse is an 800 metre walk from the car park, with a steep climb at the end. There is a small kiosk on site serving tea, coffee and cold drinks. Visitors are welcome to pack their own supplies and make the most of the beautiful 360 degree views. The current lease holder, Newcastle Now, cares for the site to ensure it is open to the public every Sunday of the year. A proud and dedicated team of volunteers works hard to welcome visitors, they love to share their knowledge of the city and its surrounds with tourists. Newcastle Now, is undertaking an ambitious plan to raise funds to support the development of the site, ultimately delivering a unique tourism venue to serve the local community and visitors to the region.

The walk is worth it, you'll be surrounded by water until you reach the lighthouse. It does get really busy around here though

Cafe and gates are only open Sundays but the view is worth it. There's a display in the cottages explaining the history as well as future plans for the Lighthouse. There are friendly guides around to ask questions. Cafe is tiny but sells good coffee....More

We came here for a walk and to get a good view of the Newcastle foreshore. You can explore the old resident light keepers houses that are full of historic photos and information. Worth the visit and it's free.

The view from the lighthouse was spectacular. Open on Sundays to public. You can cycle up the steep slope to the top. The volunteers manning the openings are super friendly :). We could chat all day!

Lovely stroll with beautiful views with historically rich information. It's free and the walk takes about 15 minutes each way, and you can sit down at the cafe at Nobbys lighthouse for a cold or hot beverage.

I enjoy walking the entire length of the breakwall, and it's also fun to ascend to the lighthouse when open. Amazing views!
