Kids are always wrapped to visit Blackbutt, with its close encounters with many animals, playgrounds, picnic areas etc Blackbutt is a must for those with kids

A beautiful way to spend an afternoon with family, checking out some of the very cool animals of this country! Love the BBQ's, open area for picnics, birthday parties, so many reasons to go here, again and again !

Fantastic place to take the family for the day. Plenty of places to explore bush walks, duck ponds and wild life exhibits. Room to move with open areas, playgrounds and picnic areas. Come prepared to pay for parking $4per hr when we visited. All in...More

Wow, I haven't been to Blackbutt reserve in years-wow so worth a visit. It was such a great visit and my visitors from England enjoyed the visit to- exceptional!

Not sure about dogs but we did the journey both ways by public transport (bus), took about 30-40 mins from Central Newcastle near the old station.

I second the above. It would be two buses and like 1.5km+ walking, taxi would definitely be easiest :)
