Visiting this church is like stepping into one of the many churches found in Europe or South America. Rarely (if anywhere else) in Australia. Absolutely beautiful frescoes painted on the ceiling and walls make this an absolute awesome experience irrespective of one’s own personal faith. An absolute must see and be prepared to be awed.

Missed stopping the last time in town but made sure to visit this trip! My mate was amazed I wanted to stop but after walking in his jaw dropped and was glad I insisted on the stop. The church dates back to 1913 and has the magnificent tall tower which dominates the streetscape. But the interior murals are the star attraction. Done by an Italian artist (Franceso Floreani) in 1931, they may not match the old masters or the Sistine Chapel but are great in a country Victorian town and a tribute to the Parish forefathers. I've seen the Sistine & numerous European Cathedrals and I rate St Mary's up with the best of them. The purgatory section was worth the visit, eerie!!

Well worth poking your head in the door of this imposing church. Ceilings and walls painted by a talented Italian painter. Impressive Main Street to Bairnsdale and worth a two day stopover to explore the area

This church is worth visiting for the stunning murals on the walls and ceilings done by an Italian artist. Unfortunately it was a bit dark when we went in and no one to talk about anything but apparently there is a tour you can arrange.

You can’t miss this huge Catholic Church. Definitely worth a stop and a look around. Even worth a look from outside

This interersting old Roman Catholic Church on Main Street, built in red brick in 1913 precides over a busy car park with McDonalds , Subway a Public Toilet and the Visitor Information Center. Although not elaborate or different architecture, the church is large and has some impressive, some say ugly interior paintings done by an out of work Italian artist Francesco Floreani in 1931. Sadly a funeral was underway so I could not venture inside.

There are guides to explain different aspects of the architecture.
There is an interesting history to the painted ceiling.

A grotesque and ugly interior. The painting above the alter is enough to give one nightmares! A very overrated and uninteresting exterior. Sorry, hate this building!

Even though we arrived during mass we were not made feel uncomfortable. The best decorated church that we have seen outside if Europe. Beautiful, serene and calming atmosphere
