Discover ancient landforms, Yamaji history and culture, and the region’s unique natural landscapes and marine environment.

Witness the wrecks of HMAS Sydney (II) and HSK Kormoran

as they currently lie, 2,500 metres deep on the ocean floor,

in From Great Depths, a moving exhibit and 3D film.

The Museum’s shop has a great range of souvenirs, gifts and educational items suited to all ages and interests.

The Museum is open daily 9:30am - 3:00pm. Closed all public holidays.

The Geraldton Museum has a room that includes very interesting information about early shipwrecks on the West Australian coastline, especially the wreck of the Batavia on the Abrolhos.

So the wife and I drive to Geraldton on our road trip up the coast from Perth. We arrive and find our accommodation, grab a light lunch and then go to the Geraldton museum at 2:35 pm on a Friday only to find that the museum closes at 3:00. These ridiculous hours are obviously for the benefit of staff who... More

Thank you for your feedback on the Museum of Geraldton's new opening hours implemented last year. The opening hours of the Museum of Geraldton were changed from 9.30am – 4pm daily to 9.30am – 3pm daily, with closure on public holidays, on 1 July 2016. Spent nearly two walking round this exhibition of local history. It covers the industrial development but more specifically devotes many exhibits to the Batavia coneection to the region. Also there is a very good 3D depiction of the HMAS Sydney ll tragedy. My only complaint would be the poor lighting to read the information cards on some of the items,... More

The HMAS Sydney/Kormoran section is very interesting, and runs a 3D film of the underwater discovery, very moving. The Batavia display is very good

Great place for a few hours midday when it's too hot outside, so much local history. 3D shipwreck film the best bit. Excellent!

We participated in the shipwrecks information session during the peak holiday season. The group was too large and it was difficult to hear the presenter and we drifted off. We did however learn about the ship wrecks and Dutch East India Company, through the large amount of artefacts and written information provided. It was lovely to see the reproduction of... More
