One of the good things we like about New Zealand is the parks and this one if one of our favourites. Has a section for small kids and big kids with lots of activities for both, all are free as well, Flying fox, trampoline's and many others. They also have a free BBQ area where you can cook and prepare... More

Lots of playground equipment for the young kids! They love it. There is also a shallow free outdoor splash pool for the summer, some bird aviaries and a miniature train. For the adults there are the rose gardens and surrounding bush walks that link up with the popular river track located at the back of the esplanade. The gardens are... More

The gardens were absolutely beautiful! Really wish we were there earlier to go on the mini train that went through the gardens. Lots of lovey flowers, birds and water features too see. Also a lovely cafe!

It seems any weather is good for a stroll in the park. There are nice playground areas for children, clean toilet facilities and wide footpaths. There were a variety of birds to see in the aviary, which is being replaced. Absolutely lovely.

We are Palmerston North locals who also spent a year in Hamilton. The overall size of the Esplanade and Hamilton gardens is approx the same however, Hamilton gardens are way way better especially with walkways and always something different happening. There is a train through the Esplanade which I think is overpriced but popular. There is also a cafe that... More

Recently the group Palmy Rocks have started leaving beautiful coloured rocks in the esplanade (as well as other parks) - result? kids hooked on finding these treasures. We walked 10km the other day with the kids wanting more and more. Great idea and makes the esplanade even better! Go to the cafe and get a free copy of the permanent... More

Even braving 18mph winds, this was a most enjoyable visit. Flowers, birds, conservatory, lawns just go on and on. We even stopped to watch a croquet match and talked with the friendly players.

Love the train ride and play ground. The BBQ hot plate have stainless steel lids on it and were clean. My kids had lots of fun on the flying fox and giant slides.
