This is a truly fab place. Yes is is run by volunteers. Yes it could be done a little better. But the welcome and enthusiasm from people that are proud of the local mining heritage wa fantastic. Great to see old machinery in use. This is one for all ages. Walk round mine is short and not strenuous and cool.... More

Have just taken a school group of 72 children through here. The boys loved it. Staff were well organized and used to large groups. Very interesting overview of gold mining in the Coromandel run from a functioning mine.

A great little place, loved the underground mine tour and all the stories. The chap - originally fr Chichester, who did the tour was very knowledgeable and passionate. We did think that it would be beneficial both to the chap running the mine and to the attraction asa whole if he had someone to support him. As mid afternoon on... More

This project is run by volunteers and is on-going. It is amateur in places but that only adds to the charm. We had a superb tour guide and his passion for the project came through. A good place to start to understand Thames.

That a gem like this is located right on the outskirts of Thames. We spent nearly 2 hours exploring, reading and wondering about mines, panning and life for the miners. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteer guide.

A very good guide lead us. It is only volunteers who run that project of restoring the old maschinery of the gold mine. You get a lot of very interesting information on the history of gold mining in Thames and the whole process of gold mining in common. You even go down into the old mining tunnels!

Don't expect a Disney experience and you will enjoy this. This is a real gold mine, currently being restored by a group of enthusiasts who hope to make their fortune very soon. You don't get to go too far underground, but it is a little dark and a little spooky so kids may not be too keen. The guides are... More

Visited with our teenage sons - tours are guided so you get to walk through the mine with your hard hat on. Many other displays are available including ability to pan for gold yourself. Our guide was great - so much history and information shared. Hopefully they get the stamper up and going very shortly as that will add to... More

This is a terrific exhibit and depiction of a mid-1800s gold mine in New Zealand -- from the equipment used to the life of the men who worked there. I highly recommend it -- we even got to walk down into the mine!

Took visitors who wanted a mining experience. They were impressed with the authenticity and one was over the moon, but I wasn't greatly impressed. No magic here for me.
