Wow!! Who knew this existed?? Should be more widely advertised, known about. Incredible tunnel and overall attraction. Thank-you Whanganui Council for keeping this alive!

A 100 yeard walk along a dank tunnel brings you to the elevator and up you go - and then you have two towers with phenominal views of Wanganui- and the hinterland. The towers are well worht visiting and you can also drive to the...More

This was better than I thought it would be... you can park in a small (free) carpark at the bottom of the hill next to the entrance to the tunnel.... the tunnel itself is an easy but erie walk (well lit though) into the hillside...More

We went up the elevator and then climbed the tower and walked back down the steps. View from the top worth the effort.

The Durie Hill Tower and Elevator are an iconic part of Wanganui. The top of the tower provides panoramic views of Wanganui. Must visit for a tourist.

We almost missed it, as you have to make sure you turn to your left when you are at the bottom - easily missed. But when you do go in it, it is a great experience.

A unique experience including the walk down the underground tunnel to get to the elevator. Once at the top the views over Whanganui & the river are great, even better if you climb either one of the towers at the top.

After a short walk from the township, you enter a tunnel some 230m in length that goes straight into the side of a hill, where you get into a 98 year old lift. There is a lift operator who charges you $2 each way for...More

What's not to like, a ride in a rickety elevator after an endless tunnel... but good views especially if you then head up the war memorial tower straight afterwards.... and you can walk down the steps to the river side after it all.
