Cycled the loop and the new cycleway to Onerahi. The tide was in and the view of the harbour was superb. The loop around the harbour is an easy ride or walk. Things to see on the way include the Bascule Bridge , Waka and Wave Sculpture , numerous other sculptures and informative signs on the history of the area.... More

It is easy to park nearby and there is a great relaxed feeling in the area. There are cafes, restaurants and boutique shops selling reasonably priced, good quality souvenirs. The modern clock museum is interesting for adults whilst the kids will thoroughly enjoy the excellent play area. The 5km loop is well worth the walk or bikes can be hired... More

really nice walk, around the Town Basin, and its worth taking the hour and walking right around. The bridge at the far end opened to let a boat through when we were nearby.

Compared to what it used to look like this is fantastic! Lots of shops serving good food and coffee etc. Take a stroll around the marina area too. Good place to break if you're driving North (or South for that matter!).

This place is close to the town itself and is a lovely place to take a stroll and maybe sit for while in a bar. If you don't fancy that there are a few information boards dotted around that explain the interesting history of the place that are worth a read. Quite peaceful and easy to walk - it would... More

Whangarei people you should be very proud of your city. We were holidaying from Hamilton over Christmas and were blown away by your beautiful city. We did the loop walk and we were very impressed. The footbridge and traffic bridge which opens up for the yachts etc to come into the marina was just amazing. Everywhere we went in the... More

so many things and attractions to see in a small area. Take a stroll along the harbourside and watch the boats, buy souvenirs in the many boutique shops, or sit in the sun with a coffee. Whangarei's harbourside, (The Town Basin)is just beautiful
