A place of crafty shops, cafes, a lot of sailing boats and marine life, a good children's playground and if your prepared to walk the loop over the new bridges (1 hour walk) a fascinating place. A lovely picturesque setting in a sheltered part of the Whangarei Harbour and yatch moorings for local and international sailors. Great choice of cafes and a great Start/Finish area after a brisk walk around the Hatea Loop. Best time of day in the morning through to a late lunch.

Whangarei has developed its heart into a world-class harbourside venue; something Gisborne and Whakatane could learn from. Well landscaped, an electic mix of shops and restaurants, the clock museum, something for everyone. If you are more active turn right and walk past the children's playground and enjoy a walk along the inlet. Excellent... More
