I wanted to show my daughter a kiwi. They were in a lovely enclosure and they were out and about doing their thing. We were there during feeding and there were only six people there. We also got to see a tuatara and other small reptiles and insects. My daughter actually preferred the museum, which was well set out. The staff... More

Hell there, Thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Great that you enjoyed our facility and appreciated all it has to offer. The Museum, although small, is full of treasures and their stories. Yes the staff are definitely passionate. All are long term and this is much more than a job to them. Thanks again... More

Stopped off at Kiwi North on our way to Paihia, and ended up spending four hours there because there was so much to see. Starting with the two kiwis of course. They are in a darkened glass enclosure so you can get to see them really close up. They were pretty active when we were there but try to time... More

The Kiwi enclosure is awesome and the Kiwis seem extremely happy to be there, chasing each other around playfully and searching for food. The best part is that the Kiwis are being raised for release into the wild. The reptile displays are great too. You get a close up look at Tuatara and the native geckos. The museum was quite... We found Kiwi North accidentally. What a great find! I marked two items off of my bucket list - seeing a live kiwi and seeing a live tuatara. The staff are completely committed to care of their beasts. They are equally committed to sharing their knowledge and the importance of proactive conservation of natural lands for these creatures. There are... More

Went on a slow Monday, October had the very knowledgeable staff to ourselves. Friendly informative staff that were very patient with the questions. Definitely saw the Kiwi and the infrared burrow cams were great when the Kiwi were feeling shy. Ticket to see kiwis included entry to the museum and all historic exhibitions on the site. Got there late and... More

The woman at the front desk was extremely informative, friendly and professional and gave us a lot of good information. The animal exhibits are well set up. Spent a lot of Time in the museum which was very interesting. Very pleased to see most of the items (like bones)are real not replicas like a lot of other museums. Didn't get... More

Really worth the visit. We had to wait a while to see the kiwis come out so we went through the museum first and it was excellent. Watching the Kiwis was great and it was very hard to leave them.

Kia ora, Thanks for visiting and for placing a review. One of the many benefits of having so much in one place is that there is always something to explore if the animals are not being very sociable at that time. Yes it is hard to leave Kapua and Puna. There is always something different to see with live animals... More

Wow, wow, wow! We happened upon this jewel of a place while traveling through Whangarei in north New Zealand. An incredibly lucky find. It's actually 3 places in one; A historical museum, A heritage house and ( most interestingl for me is ) The Kiwi House with wildlife exhibits and information. Here they have several rare and endangered animals that... More

A fabulous place which cost is $15 each to visit and they were very happy if we wanted to come back and have another look at the 2 kiwis in their special enclosure. Although it takes a while for your eyes to get used to the low light, if everyone is quiet, they happily move around and we saw them... More

This is an interesting spot to see a kiwi and old farm homestead. It is a very simple museum that includes some live kiwi birds and live geckos.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Yes we are an interesting combination of natural and social history, and living natural history being the only captive kiwi and tuatara viewing in Northland. The homestead is quite unique as it was only ever lived in by one family for 3 generations and therefore has had very few alterations.... More
