Lake Kaniere is quite possibly the most beautiful sight I've ever seen... Definitely worth the drive - fantastic for a picnic or walk, there is also a waterfall on the opposite side of the road. Loved seeing this lake.

Wonderful short drive from Hokitika. This is a good place to get away to for a picnic and just enjoy the mountain reflections in the lake. Nature never ceases to amaze... peaceful and beautiful Drive.

Went back to childhood, skimming stones on the lake! Booking a bach here during summer would be a fun idea.

We drive around the loo and came to the lake late in the day with the autumnal light hitting the water - quite awesome

Absolutely gorgeous scenery, and it is so peaceful there with native bush surrounding the lake. I would definately go there again

Sorry, just seen your question! Yes, I think you can take your dog, there's a street by, but it's not really busy, just be careful because they drive really fast!
