Due to the earthquake we discussed going to Kaikoura for a while. As the road north to Picton is closed (and will be for another six months), this visit would have meant that we had to deal with a huge detour. But in the end we decided to go there. You will never be safe, doesn´t matter where you go... More

If all the World was like Gerry and his crew, imagine what a wonderful world it would be! Such down to earth, genuine, kind, and friendly people who went out of their way to be so helpful.

Very kind, humourous, professional and generous Captain Gerard and his crews. We went fishing with captain's crews and we saw fur seals, some baby dolphins swimming with their moms, got lots of big perches and crayfish. Sophie rose is not a brand new large vessel, but it has everything needed for fishing. And thanks to that we fished with an... More

Had a great trip with my boyfriend, first the crew took us to some of the cray pots that had been set the night before to look for crayfish (there were so many, but a lot had to go back into the ocean as they were either under weight or pregnant) however we managed to keep a cray each. We... More

Totally worth the money! Awesome staff that helps you catching fish, crayfish, shows you around and afterward took us home to prepare our fish. We get wine, talks and while the crayfish is being prepared you are right in a locals living room, experiencing the real local stuff. Had the best excursion of my whole NZ trip!

I had heard a lot about this fishing trip from other people I'd met while traveling the South Island, so I came in with pretty high expectations. Boy, I wasn't even disappointed. The people are great, the food is amazing and there is enough wine to satisfy an entire army if need be. I had an awesome evening, I highly... More

Kaikoura may not be a game fishing hot spot but if you want to experience the best hospitality and grassroots fishing this country can offer, than this is the place to go. Value for money 10/10, Friendliness 10/10, the cook up, wine, and entertainment at the end of the day 15/10. 2hrs on the water and we saw dolphins, seals,... More

Got to beautiful Kaikoura in the afternoon, headed to the i site who booked me on an afternoon trip with the Sophie Rose. From first meeting, the crew were polite and in good humour which made for a great trip. Good safety brief, well kitted boat with good quality gear. We stopped briefly to look at some young seals and... More

Checked out this fishing charter the first day out on my Stray tour. There were 5 of us on the boat...saw seals, pulled up crayfish pots and caught my first fish in over 30 years! The guys were great...steamed up the crayfish and smoked the fish and served them wine and snacks. Great kiwi experience overall :)
