Amazing Place - but the road is still closed.

Well, it was amazing when we visited a few years ago - but as others have indicated, the road is still closed, and so it is impossible to visit at the moment.

The playful baby seals are just gorgeous and it is a very short easy walk to the waterfall. PLEASE NOTE, this is currently not accessible due to earthquake damage from the November 2016 Kaikoura quake.

This was one of Kaikoura's must see attraction. Unfortunately the walk has been Completely destroyed in the 2016 earthquake. There is not even road access at the moment.

I came here more than once. Just to see the pups play with each other. No tour needed. And at times it's just you and the pups.

The walk up here was great , but those sweet innocent baby seal just splashing around having fun was quite a adventure , and all the mums and dads were on the beach rocks sunning themselves away from the 500m walk up the valley to the waterfall and pools

Short stop when travelling up the east coast. No babies there when we called but saw lots on the coastline Hopefully not destroyed by the earthquake

Several reviews here and elsewhere were unclear with respect to access to this site. My son and I were in Kaikoura on February 19, 2017. We visited the "I-site" information booth in Kaikoura. We were advised that the site is inaccessible at this time. Due to the earthquake last fall, traffic is not permitted into this area north of the... More

I toured the Northern half of the New Zealand Southern Island and was fortunate enough to see the waterfall and its occupants. I was so impressed that I stopped twice. I have never seen anything like this. Seal pups flocking to the waterfall and frolicking I was told all day long. They are so tame that you can literally walk... More

We heard about this special place and decided to visit. It has a easy to follow path to the waterfall, which happens to be a natural nursery for seal pups. The only danger is that you sometimes have to cross the busy motorway to get to the walkway, so be careful. The path takes you right to the base of... More
