Whales, yes I saw whales!

I'm here for a wedding and as a Brit abroad on a long haul I only wanted to do one thing in New Zealand. I wanted a whale watch. I realised that I'd missed out on a boat tour but there were flights available. I booked the day before and very happily boarded the plane. We flew out some way... More

I booked the pilot a plane for my husband on valentines day. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in the sky with pilot Matt. I also was able to sit in the back as a passenger. He has flown planes before so he already knew what to do but the views from the plane were incredible. Kaikoura is a beautiful place... More

This was a great flight with a friendly instructor. We took off to the south and Matt, the instructor rapidly spotted the sperm whale surfacing 10 miles or so off shore. We had a fabulous view of the animal, and the photos here don't really do it justice. Then a scenic flight along the beach and back to land. Absolutely... More

Easy to reach airfield just 6 mins from Kaikoura. No-nonsense check in and safety briefing. We had a very competent and informative pilot on our 40 minute trip and were above the whales in about 10 minutes. Saw 4 separate whales including 2 diving. A fantastic experience for a fair price. Definitely recommended!

We had unfavourable weather conditions and the sea was choppy so it was more difficult to see the whales. We did manage to see one in its full splendor...amazing! We managed to see dolphins as well. The plane was manouvered in a very professional way.

I did the whale watch flight with them. We booked last minute, so we had to hurry but they didnt make us feel pressed It's a small plane though, so please keep that in mind, since that is very different from a big airliner with regards to turbulence and noise (we all had headsets though). Our pilot Shannon gave us... More

Top 3 moment of the whole 3 week NZ trip! The staff was very helpful and replied to an email within minutes. In between getting to the club and our flight taking off we had a 30 min break to get coffee and our pilot called the local cafe just to make sure we'd be back because he didn't want... More

We debated before signing up for the whale watching flight, but were very happy that we did. The pilot was thoughtful and knowledgeable, planning the flight so that we would have maximum whale time based on the whales diving and surfacing habits. He took great care to ensure that everybody on board had excellent opportunities to view and photograph the... More

Do it! It's soooo worth the money you spent. But do it with Air Kaikoura. Seen two whales and hundreds of dolphins. I am still excited.

Shane was our pilot & we loved the experience from start to finish. He really went above & beyond for us. The flight itself was a Fantastic experience. Sheepskin rugs on the seats. We took off & after a short while spotted a sperm whale. U don't get to see him all but at certain views u see his scale.... More
