This dolphin encounter was really incredible. There was a bit of confusion when we checked into the dolphin encounter office as they weren't sure if it would be running. There had been a cyclone a few days before so the sea wasn't as clear as usual so they weren't offering the swimming with dolphins and lots of people were cancelling.... More

Bucket list worthy! Very professional organization w focus on safety for you and the dolphins. One of my top 3 experiences in New Zealand along w Glow Worm Caves in Waitamo and Kayaking the remote coast w Darryl at Abel Tasman National Park. Could not have imagined being in the water and swimming w 200 wild dolphins! Sublime, thrilling, unreal!... More

We visited in Autumn, nice day morning Sunday , drove a round trip of 5 hrs because of recent road closures-just to do this trip, an area we wanted to visit just for this chance of encounter. To be hold lack of numbers meant we could not do trip when the trip costs €100 plus we felt was unreasonable. However... More

While visiting a friend in Kaikoura she suggested we try this. It had good reviews but I was skeptical because I've gone whale watching twice and never saw a whale so I wasn't sure what to expect. Nature can be finicky and the animals are totally wild so I wasn't convinced that we'd even see dolphins let alone swim with... More

My wife and I had an incredible time swimming with the dolphins. The staff was knowledgeable and respectful. We made several encounters during the trip. When the dolphins swam away we would hop back on the boat and move about 200m before jumping back in the water with the dolphins. Unfortunately the water was murky due to the cyclones that... More

Great encounter with wild dolphins in beautiful Kaikoura. Super friendly and helpful staff. The boat trip itself was really enjoyable. Stopped several times to have maximum contact with the dolphins. Made some fantastic pictures, definitely worth the money

Yes, it's expensive but it's an extremely memorable experience. We got lucky finding dolphins quickly after launch and had a relatively long time in the water. All the staff we interacted with were friendly, professional and efficient. They did a nice job encouraging our 9 and 11 yr old girls to get in the water, but letting them know it... More

This is a magical family experience and well worth the journey ( we had to use the inland route ). We had 3 kids and 2 adults on the tour and the staff were excellent in ensuring that the kids were looked after at all times. The whole process was very professional and we got to swim with loads of... More

This was definitely a family highlight of our trip. So many dolphins all interacting with us and swimming so close. We were fortunate to have brilliant weather, dolphins only about 15 mins away, clear water and excellent and friendly staff. Only personal negative was I was pretty sea sick. Bring tablets and don't let this stop you as it really... More

As it had only been a few months since the Kaikoura earthquake in Nov 16, we emailed Dolphin Encounter before our trip to Kaikoura to check that the tours were running. The company came back with very informative emails, and clearly explained that the tours were running but still weather-dependent. We weren't sure about making the long journey to Kaikoura... More
