The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden was established in 1993 to research, conserve and promote the wider appreciation of Australia’s arid zone flora. Located on the shores of Upper Spencer Gulf with spectacular views to the ancient Flinders Ranges, the Garden showcases a diverse collection of arid zone habitats in a picturesque setting of more than 250 hectares. As well as its stunning selection of arid zone plants, the garden is also home to more than 100 species of birds, and has a diverse population of repltiles, mammals and insects. It features a children's animal discovery trail, AridSmart display gardens where you can see how to use the plants in you home garden, and a visitor centre, which incorporates the Bluebush Cafe and the AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop. The cafe has mouthwatering menu choices and you can't go past the Quandong Smoothies. The AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop is where you can purchase a piece of the garden to take home. Its range of AridSmart plants will not only reduce your water bills but will bring the beauty of Australia's plants into your garden.

It took an Englishman to point us to this place. What a little known place. It was excellent to visit, eat, and support a local business. Need to drive through a Port Augusta and head on the Stuart Highway a short distance to enter. Cafe served good cafe style food, and the bush ice cream a treat on a 44... More

I went with teenage kids and they weren't really that keen, which I get. My wife and I loved the gardens. Great setup and easy to get around. Cafe was also very good. I recommend this place for older people

A beautiful oasis,a short trip north of town. The wildflowers, and other flowers, were generally in flower with colour galore across the gardens. Spent quite a while exploring the large gardens, all of which was well pathed, well signed and informative. If looking for something to do for a few hours when in Port Augusta, this is it.

Fascinating and informative. Great gift shop and café. A top attraction. Try to go early in the day if it's hot as it's really worthwhile waking around and seeing everything. You never know if a goanna or Sleepy will cross your path.l

Passing through Port Augusta on our way to Adelaide we stopped in at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, It has some nice walking paths and well laid out gardens, Really quite a nice place for a stretch and picnic if you have the time.

A visit to Arid Lands in Port August is a must. A large well maintained garden with lots of flowers, different landscapes and trees. Beautiful lookout. Do not forget to pay a visit to the restaurant. Nice views on the garden while drinking your coffee or having your meal. On the way or on the way back go to Flinders... More

Visited the garden on a really hot, windy afternoon. It looks like the areas had not been tended recently. Luckily we had our fly nets with us as they were bad on this occasion. The shop and cafe were open. The person in the cafe was not particularly friendly. I would prob not visit the garden again.

We visited this garden in October 2016 and we spent a couple of hours wandering the many tracks through the gardens. The gardens are well set out and the tracks are mostly level and easy to walk. It's good to see a garden dedicated to native Australian desert species. When we had walked the whole garden, we went into the... More
