While on the expensive side, The Free House offers a wide range of independently brewed beers along with a satisfactory wine selection. Food can be purchased on site but a real feature is that you are welcome to bring takeaway food from other vendors. You will even be supplied with crockery and cutlery. The team is knowledgeable and friendly. For... More

Interesting place to visit in the middle of the CBD. An old church turned into a craft beer bar. Large outdoor setting. Great range of craft beer on tap, but it is a bit pricey compared to other craft beer bars in Nelson.

We stumbled cross this place and we nearly didn't go on as we thought it was a church. Really unusual place- a converted church that's now a pub. They sell local ales with some unusual ones to try and a huge selection of ales. Staff were really friendly and place had a good atmosphere. Had plenty of tables inside and... More

Makes great use of a former church building, offers an excellent range of local beers and non-alcoholic drinks. Cheerful staff, and tasty nibbles.

This is the best pub in town. The beer is outstanding and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Why would you go anywhere else

Great selection of local beverages available, particularly craft beers. Friendly and accomodating staff. Great vibe with lots of locals. Inside and outside seating. Would also recommend the spuds with mayo.

A craft beer temple beholden to no brewery (hence "free") built inside an abandoned church with an adjacent yurt. Different enough for you? I loved the little kids and dogs running through the place while I quaffed away half pints, tasters, and full (Imperial) pints of local brews. Wine for those who need more fruit in their diets.
