Not to be missed. Extensive views back to Paihia and Waitangi, Russell and the outer islands. You can walk up track via the seafront in Russell or drive up. Very step incline. Flat parking. You can often see weka about enjoying the grubs.

Hiked this is December 2017 and you'll want to bring water because going up the bitumen the heat radiates and there isn't a lot of shade. There is a longer, more scenic forested trail that is identified by a sign post. So we hiked the...More

Good wee walk. Would be great views on a sunny day. Make sure to check out both sundial and flagstaff. Would recommend road up and high tide bush walk down. Possible in jandals by road but would recommend sneakers for bush track

Took a morning walk up Flagstaff hill around the walkways. Good little workout, takes about 40 mins at an amble to do the circuit. Some steep steps in parts.

There are two sites at the top of Fagstaff hill so try and see both. The historic one is where the Maori chiefs who were against British rule kept chopping down the flagstaff where the British flag was flown as a result of which there...More

Flagstaff Hill is the closest vantage point to Russell/Kororareka township and the place where the colonial British raised their flag, only for the pole to be cut down with an axe, again and again, by the first Maori activist Hone Heke and his band, much...More

Kelly was very informative and friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed this little trip up to Flagstaff Hill after my Hole in the Rock Cruise with Explore.

A nice way to see Russell and some of the more distant parts of the peninsula. Worth the walk if you took the ferry over. Not a nature walk, basically up a road.

Thank Stuart A

Yes no problem, there is a small car park at the top with a short walk to the flagstaff and there is a seat too.
