We recently visited Queenstown and took the local bus to Arrowtown to have a look around. Such a pretty preserved old mining town. And you must walk down to the rivers edge, it's lovely.

Picturesque little town with views of surrounding mountains and a few nice little shops and cafes. The Chinese Settlement is interesting and informative.

We spent about 3 hours here walking through the Chinese village and reading about the history of this camp. The town has done a good job of maintaining the homes and shops in original condition and providing details of the living conditions and history. Nice walk, easy and informative. Good way to spend an afternoon or morning.

We traveled from Queenstown to Arrow Town and the journey by public transport was very good. This little town now set up for tourists with so many gift shops belies it's beauty and history. The Catholic Church with its warning before entry threw us, yet earthquakes can do damage. So in we went and found so much local history its... More

Arrowtown is a very quaint heritage village surrounded by mountains. It has a tree lined avenue and beautifully restored historic buildings including miners cottages. It's a working village with Cafes & Bars and other shops catering for everyone's need. Walk the river walk and find the " X"marks the spot that "Maori Jack" found gold in the Arrow River back... Our visit to Arrowtown lasted an hour but it was the sweetest hour. This old mining village has it's own old world charm. It's still alive in the early 20th century. The small shops selling gold jewelry, the little roadside cafes, haberdasher shops, confectioners...all side by side lend a certain grace to the main street. This town will stay in... More

Beautiful little town full of character, lots of specialty shops to visit and spend money in. If you wish to get some supermarket food best stock up in Queenstown before you go, its rather expensive in Arrowtown.
