An enjoyable family riding holiday along the old rail line. We loved the downhill ride out of Beechworth, the green farms, the wineries and scenic hills surrounding the valley. The ride was on sealed paths the whole way and a great family experience
This trail is actually a series of connected cycle paths, linking existing (in the case of Wangaratta) and former railway stations in north east Victoria. All trails are sealed. A cyclist can choose a short circuit from Wangaratta to Oxley and Milawa, or longer route...More
Some friends and I completed the rail trail from Beechworth to Wangaratta over 2 days. It was an excellent trip and well worth the effort. If you don't like hills then go Beechworth to Everton on the first day (downhill) and Everton to Wangaratta (mostly...More
What a fabulous ride for anyone to do, by yourself, in a group, couples or families. Most of the ride is flat with some gradual rises in some places and, best of all, it is sealed all the way. Bring your own bike or hire...More
Had a lovely ride from Everton to Beechworth and return on the Easter long weekend. It is up hill along most of the 16 km to Beechworth but the gradient is not too steep and it is easy to roll back later in the day....More
Fantastic Rail trail. If you are feeling lazy, the trail from Beechworth to Everton, then to Wangaratta is basically downhill. Make sure you have a ride back to Beechworth though as its quite a climb to get back home!
Some friends rode from Everton station to Gapsted Winery and found this a pleasant trail. It is a bit uphill as it gets closer to Gapsted but worth it for the view, food and wine there. We walked some of the trail on a number...More
Easy cycling well maintained trail. Lots of helpful friendly locals and so many interesting places to visit. Superb eateries/wineries to spend time in. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy this at leisure
Easy and superbly sceanic.
Signage abit lacking in places - especially on return into Wangaratta. The names of some attractions on the route could also have been improved on signs - very small printing on a bigger sign which was all about pathway etiquette meant...More

Oops sorry. We stayed at different areas and met at the Beechworth part. We parked at both Beechworth and Everton and then taxied back to pick up cars etc. As we needed the trailer to collect the bikes. The 2nd day we we dropped of at Everton and we did the last part. The person with the trailer did not do that part so dropped us off. The others left their cars at the Everton end of the trail and were taken back to pick them up.
I liked the way we did it, Wangaratta to Bright, as you do the nicest section last. We went via Milawa, having driven to Beechworth for some cycling around there on a separate day. We did it in two days, staying a night in... More
I liked the way we did it, Wangaratta to Bright, as you do the nicest section last. We went via Milawa, having driven to Beechworth for some cycling around there on a separate day. We did it in two days, staying a night in Myrtleford, so we could have a good look around Milawa and generally take our time.
We used Busabout to take our luggage to Myrtleford and then Bright, and afterwards take all 11 of us, luggage and bikes back to Wangaratta. We found them to be on time and efficient.
