Although Airlie Beach is sandy and has a swimming area with protective nets this is the town's most popular sunbathing and swimming area. It is a huge lagoon with hard surface and grass sunbathing areas. There is a shallow section for kids/families and a deep water section for swimming. Lifeguards patrol and its all for free! The lagoon is really... More

This is an ideal location in the center of Airlie Beach. Covered areas with picnic tables and a great place to swim or walk in the water. The lagoon is very long with bridges and a great view of the water.

Considering you can't swim in the sea this lagoon is perfect to cool off in and it never seemed really busy! This was walking distance from our hostel so spent most days there

A large, open, free place to swim for all ages. Lifeguards on patrol, varying depths of water and plenty of shade and sunny areas to lie for hours on end. Open till 9pm to swim, the water is rather warm at the moment in the summer but because it's on the edge of the ocean there is usually a bit... More

We loved the lagoon! Relaxing, nicely located by the water, a lot of space, the pool was big and nice. Defenetly worth spending a day or two here.

As we travelled during stinger season, swimming in the beach was not an option, so instead we spent our time down at the lagoon. The lagoon was very peaceful even though it was so busy it still had a nice vibe about it. There was heaps of spots to lay around and relax, and there were lifeguards walking around the... More

This is so nice - beautiful area that is free to use! We visited on a very, very hot day and found it a welcome relief. The lagoon is large enough that you don't feel crowded even when it's busy. Lots of shady areas to put a towel down and relax. Highly recommended.
