Had lovely guided hike through forests, to waterfalls, past pastures. Great views. Not overly difficult terrain to pass for those of us irregular hikers! Beautiful views and nice restaurants in nearby town for lunch! We drove out of Porto, about 1 1/2 hours.

We were lucky enough to stay at a bed and breakfast for 4 days very close to Peneda-Geres National Park in Northern Portugal in Amares. The area is beautiful and natural. We were in Braga for the day and saw a flash wildfire break out...More

We visited in hopes of seeing wildlife but only longhorn cows showed up. The tour of the park takes 3 hrs by car and there are some nice local restaurants in Geres. Avoid weekends and Sundays in the summer as all locals flock there for...More

Beautiful country. Picturesque small villages in and around. Careful of some of the walks as fires in recent times have burned out the markets in some places so check with the folk at the gates before you kick off. Very few people around on the...More

You can do a lot of hiking - in the wilderness or via ancient roman routes. The area is really amazingly beautiful and you can experience everything from tranquil forests, open mountain tops with wild horses to waterfalls. But plan your trip ahead. Contact Tourist...More

This park is incredible! You could spend a month here and not see everything. We had very little time, but were awed and amazed by the mountains, the little villages, our stay in Soajo.....I believe we'll be coming back!

Peneda-Geres is the sole national park in Portugal. It is not like the national parks in the U.S. where a certain area known for a particular beauty or natural importance are closely preserved and watched over. This park seeks to draw importance to preserving the...More
