On Christmas day, we went to San Lorenzo for Christmas mass. The church goes back to the 1700's and is tiled completely in blue tiles depicting the story of St. Lawrence. The deacon asked me to read the second reading in English as the mass was said by the priest in Portuguese, English and French. A charming, lovely old church... More

The church was advertised as a place of interest but there was nothing in the literature to say that photographs of the inside were not permitted

Beautiful!!!! Well worth taking the trip to see the best example of Algarve decorative tile work. you can't take pictures once inside the church but they are plenty of postcards to chose from at the entrance.

This really is worth a visit. The interior is truly amazing. They dont allow photography inside so the blue tiling has to be seen to be believed. It is a little difficult to find but parking is easy and you must visit the cemetery aswell, It really is a special place and you can do it in an hour but it... This small visual delight will amaze you when you open the curtain to the chapel. IT IS TRULY STUNNING. In a country full of beautiful churches this little one really stands out. Our guide said it is not really open to the general public, that one needs an appt. I bought a sweet little nativity memento from here to always... More

The church is truely beautiful, covered with blue ceramic characteristic of the area. However we did not like the rather cold reception, the necesity to pay a fee and above all the impossibility to take any photo (even in the entrancy !!).

São Lourenço in Almancil or Saint Lawrence Church: We are happy that we visited this little but a unique church, though we have visited many beautiful churches around the world. There is an entry fee of €2 to visit inside which is more than worth to pay and visit inside. The interior of this little church is beautifully made up... More

Blue and white tiled biblical scenes cover ceiling and all walls. In quite remarkable condition for their age. Not easy to find - just off N125 east of Almansil, but well worth the detour.

It is a beautifully tiled small atmospheric church and well worth a visit. If you are luckily enough to hear someone singing - it will uplift the soul!
