We visited during some Arabian Festival and the square was filled with incense and oils and leather boots and other objects you might relate to the Arabian Nights and that most hippies use. The buildings that in fact surround the square are extremely pretty.

Right next to the Alcazaba and Tourist Office. The paint used is a little different than most plazas in Spain. There are a few eateries and shops there, but was not busy the few times I walked through.

It is a nice place to visit for the architecture, however, it isn't really a centre of city life. I think it is an area that was once run-down and they are trying to bring it back to life

Considerably more run down thatn in the fotos on the web. Apparently been reconditioned fairly recently: either they used very poor quality materials or they did not rectify certain structuiral problems.
