- Emily B4 contributionsAmazing company to see all the animalsI highly recommend this company they were so accommodating. We forgot that our reservation was on Saturday so we emailed them and they said that we could come Sunday. We were the first boat out. I recommend going in the morning we saw tons of animals. Our guide was spectacular Kenner.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 November 2023
- SusanBrian2012Richmond, Virginia14 contributions10/10 would do againEven though it was pouring rain, our guides Ravi and Leo found all kinds of birds, snakes, monkeys, and more. Ravi was both passionate and incredibly well-informed about the wildlife and ecosystems of Costa Rica. We learned so much. The whole experience felt both leisurely and inspiring. It was a pleasure to spend time in the mangrove system with them -- would definitely do it again!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 November 2023
- Chip Wilde11 contributionsMangrove WondersWhile there are never guarantees, we had lots of wildlife to see...three types of monkeys, a napping boa, caiman and a croc, and lots of basilisks...even got to see one speed across the water. That was a treat! And the birds! A beautiful Trogon, and lots more. Our guide (and boat captain) were very knowledgeable...lots of details about the mangrove environment and residents. It was a great afternoon.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 February 2024
- Voyage505536172642 contributionsAwesome Mangrove tour with GerardoMy wife and I just recently did the Kokopelli mangrove tour in Sierpe. What an amazing tour! We had so much fun seeing all the different wildlife and diversity in the mangroves. Our guide, Gerardo, was very knowledgeable and informative. Gerardo made the tour so much fun! We highly recommend taking this tour.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 March 2024
- dawn j2 contributionsThanks Joshua, Kokopelli, and crew! Excellent !We took the tour with two little girls 5 and 8 and Joshua was wonderful , we saw three types of monkeys and lots of other things as well. The boat itself was very comfortable had nice cushions with back rests , and being a pontoon boat the girls were able to easily walk to the front and back in order to see the wild life. We were very impressed we have take many tours and this by far was the best. Thanks Joshua , Kokopelli and crew for an unforgettable morning on the water.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 March 2024
- Dave TCrawley, United Kingdom4 contributionsGreat tour of the Sierpe RiverFantastic tour with guide Joshua and boat captain Leo, both great at spotting wildlife. We were lucky to see crocodiles, caiman, iguanas, lizards, scarlet macaws, howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, squirrel monkeys. We also saw a couple of kingfishers and many types of heron and white ibis. For the icing on the cake we also saw the amazing common potoo (bird) roosting at the top of a dead tree. Great trip!Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2024
- adodwdOjochal, Costa Rica16 contributionsAsk for Joshua and Dennis! Our experience with the Kokopelli Mangrove Tour in Sierpe with Joshua and Dennis was nothing short of extraordinary! Joshua was an absolute treasure trove of knowledge about the area and its wildlife. His passion for conservation and appreciation for the natural world were truly impressive. He was also native to the area but spoke perfect English. Equally impressive was the boat driver's incredible skill at spotting the diverse array of creatures that call the mangroves home. From camouflaged crocodiles to vibrant bird species, his keen eyes never missed a beat. He expertly maneuvered the boat, ensuring that we had the perfect vantage point to observe and photograph each magnificent creature in its natural habitat. We saw snakes, caymens, scarlet macaws, a very rare stick bird amongst MANY other birds, a racoon, LOTS of white faced monkeys, squirrel monkies, howler monkeys, bats, just to name a few. They even extended our tour and ventured deeper into the mangroves, determined to make sure we saw all three species of monkeys in the area. In conclusion, the Kokopelli Mangrove Tour offers an unparalleled glimpse into the wonders of Costa Rica's mangrove ecosystem. Huge thanks to the Joshua and Dennis for an unforgettable experience that exceeded all expectations. We highly recommend them!Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 April 2024
- Bonnie S1 contributionOur amazing Mangrove boat tour on the Sierpa River, Costa Rica!We had an amazing boat captain, Leo, that maneuvered us effortlessly through the Mangroves with laser eyes (spotting cobras, 3 different monkey species, birds, crocodiles, etc…) and a knowledgeable tour guide, Joshua, who made our experience such a fun & memorable one! I would highly recommend this tour to any visitors, we enjoyed every minute!!!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 May 2024
- jackiejourneyerAustin, Texas16 contributionsAmazing Connection with Nature including Squirrel MonkeysMy friend and I did this tour, and we had the boat to ourselves. Our guide Joshua was very knowledgeable and helpful. He grew up on the Sierpe River and has a love of Costa Rica and the region. In addition to the squirrel monkeys, we saw howler monkeys, scarlet macaw, bats, grasshoppers, lizards, and snakes. The boar did not bother the squirrel monkeys and we got to see them up close.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 May 2024
- DMBfan71Scottsdale, Arizona514 contributionsRelaxing Ride Down the Sierpe RiverWe did the 8am tour with Joshua and Leo and it was fantastic! There was just one other couple with us and their adorable little girl so it was very intimate. We got to see several species of monkeys - the squirrel monkeys nearly jumped onto our boat! We saw many species of birds. We saw quite big crocodiles! It was a very relaxing and informative experience.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 August 2024

I warmly recommend everything to do a mangrove boat tour with Kokopelli. The communication was super easy with the owner and she was able to arrange everything the same day on short notice.
Our expectations were exceeded. We saw so many different animals and our tour guide was so knowledgeable and one of a kind. He treated us with different jungle fruits, explained a lot about fora and founa. We even got some refreshments. It was just amazing! :)
Thank you Kokopelli for the great experience and the unforgettable memories you created for us :)

Wonderful! Tour from Drake bay needed more people but Kokopelli did a private tour with just me, a guide and a guide in training. Got to eat swamp cashew, ice cream bean, and hold a green parrot snake. I learnt about flora and fauna of swamp and took some good pix. Saw troop of squirrel monkeys gather round to scold a spectacled cayman at waters edge. Lots of great birds tseen eg roadside hawk, boat bill, some king fishers...
Guide pointed out fishing bats that are dark grey under concrete bridge but when sleeping in long lines on a tree are beige and brown to blend in with trunk.
When I got stranded at the Archaeology Museum 10 km out of town (they only take credit cards) I called Kokopelli . My guide Kenner came out to get me and drove me back to Sierpe dock no charge.
Recommended.

We had a fabulous trip on the Siepe River with Kokopelli Tours.
The guide was very knowledgeable about all the animals and plants we saw on the trip. The tour was relaxing on a covered boat with cold drinks and a great atmosphere 😊
We can definitely recommend Kokopelli to anyone thinking of doing a river tour 👍🏼

The first half of the tour was amazing. We were in a nice comfortable pontoon. We were supposed to have a guide and helmsman however the guide never showed up to work so the helmsman did both. The first 90 minutes we went downriver into the jungle and it was beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife and even went up a canal with trees overhead on both sides. We saw white faced capuchins, spider monkeys and many scarlet macaws, crocodiles and many birds. We even saw a Potoo bird perched on bamboo. I could of easily done the entire 3 hours downriver.
For some reason we went upriver and turned up through the old town for the second half of the tour. We went past old concrete factories and under bridges. I don't know if there was a cool destination we were heading to because our guide said rain was coming and he turned around. The second 90 minutes turned into 60 minutes and the 8 people on board had lost interest by this point.
I would probably do it again because the first 90 minutes were so enjoyable, however, I would ask not to go through the town. We did see a kingfisher on the second half and that was interesting.

We had Carlos as our guide and he was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable! We saw everything there was to see on this mangrove tour - over 20 types of birds, 3 kinds of monkeys, and crocodiles of all sizes. Beautiful flora as well. Our brave captain - Gerardo even got out of the boat to push us whence our pontoon boat got stuck (it’s shallow) several times. We really enjoyed ourselves. I’d highly recommend this tour!

We did the afternoon tour with Joshua and Leo and it was fantastic. Their hawk eyes were impressive at pointing out many animals: boa, birds (an owl!), turtles, monkeys and of course crocs . Joshua’s love of nature truly showed and it was appreciated. Great tour if hiking in Corcovado isn’t an option.
Only reason why this didn’t get 5 stars is because of the check in. We weren’t warned that the credit card machine is temperamental and doesn’t always work(even though we specifically asked if we can pay by credit card). If we couldn’t set up a pay pal account or pay cash, there would have been no tour! No ATM in Sierpe.

We took a tour with the guide Josue and the captain José. The tour was very interesting and rewarding mainly because of the knowledgeable guide who had a true passion for nature and wildlife and who showed us both plants, birds and various animals. We also learnt about the environmental challenges that Costa Rica faces. A very pleasant and interesting tour. Thank you 🙏!
