Unexpected exit

After visiting Vitus Catedral this basilica appears smal and plain but when exiting you have a surprise. The room is generously decorated with paintings and you also find skuls

The outside doesn't match with the inside. While it is colourful outside, it is quite sombre from in the inside. I almost want to believe that, like the "Old Royal Palace," that the accessible places have been stripped off their original decoration pieces that resulted that you won't get the "total picture." So you have to read the info and... More

After paying a small fortune to get access to the Castle sights, this one is included so you make the effort. The best part is the exit, with a eloquent display of a Relic (bones)

It's best to buy a circuit B ticket and have access to the palace, cathedral, basilica, golden lane and tower access. The ticket is 250CZK per person and 500CZK per family (is a good deal) The basilica is just gorgeous. The pics tell the entire story.

We saw St. Vitus's Cathedral before the Basilica and it is an anti climax. Very plainly decorated inside, especially after the stunning Cathedral. Lots of history and some good wall murals if that's your thing, but very ordinary otherwise.

One of the stops offered by the Route B ticket for the Castle District. Takes a short time to visit. Nothing remarkable but gives you a feel for the period of time it was an active facilty.

Just round the corner from St Vitus within the Prague Castle walls, this small but pretty Baroque church houses the remains of Saint Ludmila of Bohemia (the grandmother of Saint Wenceslaus). Ticket entry only, but it's part of your group ticket. There's not a huge amount to see, but it has a beautiful apse, you can look through the door... More

The inside of the St. George's Basilica is lovely and very ornate. We entered using the Prague Pass which gave us combined entry. It is worth a visit and we were in there about 20 minutes and in that time was enough to see it. We were lucky that it wasn't that busy. There is one way in and another... More

After all, it might not be that small, but it's simply overshadowed by the huge st vitus. It's just on your way so you can't miss it, and it's on the circuit B combination ticket, so there is absolutely no reason not going in. I've heard some great concerts are being held there. Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to... More

As you exit out the side and continue from St. Vitus, sits the smaller and easy to miss St. George's Basilica. It is worth stepping in and enjoying this 12th century church. It appears that most tourists walk by, so it is less crowded, despite its smaller size. It is simply decorated and peaceul

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighbourhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
