Laterna magika counts its history since the year 1958. The first period, created by the director Alfred Radok and stage-designer Josef Svoboda began at the world exhibition EXPO 58 in Brussels, Belgium. The program showed in the Czechoslovak...more

Went to see 2 performances: 1) Cube - about an hour long dance performance with the use of projections, experimenting with creating illusions), great music and altogether really interesting to see. 2) Human Locomotion - about 80-minute long show, a combination of drama (parts that...More

We wanted to experience Prague’s famous Black Light Theatre, but I’m not sure we found it. They did use Black Light, but the show was strange and a bit disturbing for an American. I enjoyed the interaction between the film and the live characters, but...More

Hello, we are going through several reviews here and would like to thank for your opinion as well. You are right that Laterna magika actually is not a black light theatre. The history of Laterna magika dates back to World Exhibition EXPO 58 in Brussels,...More

Watched "Podivuhodné cesty Julese Verna" and it was unfortunately terrible. The story is pointless, the characters forced, and the gags are not funny. It seems somewhat outdated. Admittedly I was relying on the less than complete English captions, but even so, it wasn't the least...More

It's childish but NOT appropriate for children. It was wird, actually, it was disturbing. Don't bother considering it as an adult. Children think it's funny but the sexual innuendoes aren't age appropriate.

Learning that Laterna Magica is a special theatre in Prague, we decided to see the Extraordinary Voyages of Jules Verne. We numbly watched the first 10 mins and could not decide whether it was deliberately so weak. Stupid gags, hardly translated text, woeful ideas. We...More

This place is not for the theater snobbish and for sure this also not for Boadway theater or Moulin Rouge cabaret fans. I would say that this place has its own character. They kept the tradition from the era of Socialism, it is so pure...More

We could not wait for the interval, I'm sorry to say so that we could leave. The show revolved around a cinema screen projected onto the stage curtain with the characters going to and from the film to reality. It was clever the first time...

The director took the name of Jules Verne in vain. In addition, there were racist and anti-Semitic words expressed in the show that were not properly translated into English. Referring to Sergei Eisenstein for no reason as the "Jew-boy" was totally unnecessary. The amateurish handling...More

This performance was my wife's Valentine's Day treat this year. She's a dancer herself, and very much appreciated the level of skill displayed, and the beautiful choreography. The story revolved around the dramatic life of Edward Muybridge. We particularly enjoyed the (human) horses and the...More
