Free museum for military buffs

A bit of a walk fom the city, but perfect if you have a couple of hours to kill. The czechs are clearly very proud of their armaments industry.

An absolute must-see for history lovers. It is located on Vitkov hill, just below the memorial and Statehood Museum that is situated on top. The museum covers WWI, the inter-war period, and WWII. The information is very well written. Sometimes military museums can get caught up in the details and it's easy to lose the story, but this museum does... More

I must admit that I expected that the museum will be larger, but its content is remarkable. If you are a history or military fan - you must visit it. And above all - it is for free!

The exhibition covers period from WWI through Russian Civil War and Czech Interbellum to WWII. There's a lot of well-known items (bolt-action rifles, handguns and machine guns) and a very interesting collection of experimental and rare weapons (Czech LMG and SMG, German Volkssturmgewehr etc). The entrance is free, photo shooting is allowed

The museum is not the easiest to find, but it is well worth your effort. Both first and second WW are well exhibited. The period of german occupation especially interesting.

The best way to get to this museum is by tram to Husinecka and then a short walk or by bus 207 to U Pamatniku which is just outside and goes to Namesti Republiky. Entry is free and there is a cloakroom to leave coats. There are two floors of displays and at the moment an exposition of Prague in... More

Fascinating display of LOTS of military memorabilia, uniforms, etc, and you will leave with a pretty good sense of where the Czech people have been in the various wars in Europe. The most interesting display for me was the one that depicted the assasination of the Third Reich ruler whose killing prompted Hitler to destroy an entire Czech village, once... More

Wonderful museum and free entry! Walked from the centre of Prague which was a casual 20 minute walk and well worth it to visit this museum and the National Memorial on Vitkov Hill. Spent a couple of hours in the museum. Some very moving exhibitions and was nice to see a group of local school children visiting, very educational for... More

This is one of three sites of the Czech armed forces museum; the other two are outside the city and contain the tank and aircraft collections. It covers the story of the Czechs who thought in exile in both World Wars and the development of the regular Czech army in the 1920s and 1930s as the nation was founded in... More

The bad news is that you only get one tank, at the entrance, but the rest of the museum makes up for it. Some of the best European WWI display items apart from Belgium's museum. Fuselage of a German fighter, but tons of medals and uniforms along with smaller weapons and cannons, some of which were unique, including a Schneider... More
