Golden Lane is a pit stop strategically situated at the end of the tour in Prague Castle. Originally built in the 16th century, to house Rudolf II's castle guards, it takes its name from the goldsmiths that lived there in the 17th century. Present houses are small and have low entrances. They have been converted into shops selling water, soft... More

I found this area is the least interesting of all the Castle district. If it wasn't included in the price of the ticket I had would not have stopped to see it.

There are some of the houses set-up to show how people lived hundreds of years ago. Some of the houses are set-up as tourist shops. On the 2nd floor of the houses there is a long long walkway the entire length of the lane that has military things on display in cases, swords, pikes, old guns etc. There is limited... More

If you've got some extra change you want to get rid of, paying to walk down this little historical treat is your answer. The houses are colourful and quaint, not unlike many historical streets around Europe. If you time it right and miss a big tour group you can enjoy it; however if you show up when everyone else does,... More

One of the highlights of the Castle tour is a visit to this wonderful lane of tiny houses which now house various shops, and exhibits from Prague's interesting and varied history. Worth 30-60 minutes of anyone's time. Lovely!

The Golden Lane is filled with a dozen or so fastidiously restored very small homes reflecting the living conditions of people so very long ago. Guess what, they were lived in until 1953. The doll-house homes no larger than 100-200 soft feature a Seamstress, an Herbalist, a Bar Room and a Fortune Teller's house to name a few. It is... More

This lane is made up of very small colourful houses. The Castle gunmen used to live here in the past. The houses are so small they almost look like doll’s houses. In some houses there is an exhibition of their original furniture. In other houses there are small shops.

I kept using words like outstanding and exceptional for our experiences in and around Prague. After a week of top rate experiences, our final day visit to Hradčanské námêsti, Prague Castle district, on the mountain overlooking Prague ended our visit in stupendous style. We caught the number 22 tram up the mountain, stepped through the Royal Gardens featuring vast expanses... More

What a cute lane, it is! Although I pretty much missed out information, I found it odd that there were so few houses for servants for such a royal palace. But, these houses and their furniture were cute. They looked like it came straight from a fairytale. Worth a visit even though it would be quite busy! It doesn't really... More

Staying in Hradcany & Letna

Neighbourhood Profile
Hradcany & Letna
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
