Nature and Forest Museum is the oldest museum in the Polish national parks....

Nature and Forest Museum is the oldest museum in the Polish national parks. Its traditions reach back to the interwar period, and its collection includes many precious scientific collections and rare specimens. BNP Nature and Forest Museum is housed in a modern building, which in an innovative and attractive manner exhibits natural collections, ranging from zoology, through botany ending with historic use of the forest. processes characteristic for the Bialowieża National Park receive special focus. Permanent exposition presents the most characteristic forest communities of the forest, including riverine forest, alder carr, decidous lime-hornbeam-oak forest, pine forest, boreal sprucebog), ecological processes (e.g. tree decomposition stages) and natural phenomena (e.g. extraordinary number of species of fungi and animal world). The culture related section of the exhibit is devoted to presentation of the types of historic use of the Forest over the span of several centuries (haymaking, bee keeping, processing wood into turpentine and charcoal, narrow gauge forest trains). All the nature-related issues are divided into thematic blocks with the use of realistic pictures presenting animals, mushrooms and plants in their natural environments. A number of means of expression were used during design of the said pictures: scenic light, sounds (including natural sounds of birds and large mammals), large format coloured photographs, mock-up models. Computers equipped with touch screens (so-called multimedia stands) were installed on two exposition levels with the total area of 1500 m2, providing rapid and simplified access to additional information, supplementing information provided by the tour guide. Museum is prepared also to meet the needs of handicapped people. People on wheelchairs can visit the exhibition without any problems. They can also move between the building levels thanks to a platform and a lift, which were installed in the building especially for this purpose. The blind are allowed to examine selected exhibits using the sense of touch, though exclusively after a prior curator's consent.

Most of installations were very interesting and informative, but in some cases I couldn't recognize animals presented and was a bit confused. There is no opportunity to stop longer at a particular installation because lights are switched off and the next part is showed. However I think it's definitely worth visiting.

Price is welcoming, only 30 zloty for 2 persons (around 7,5€), but you get an audio guide in English. It might seem like "oh, I know what a forest is, I know what animals live in it!", but still I enjoyed it, even more so cuz we had a walk planned through the mentioned forests on the next day. So... Ok, it's a little tacky and I don't like the stuffed animals but if you can get beyond that, the information is actually quite useful. Twenty six informative displays all explained on a headphone set. Who knew what Poland's only venomous animal was? Go here first, ( and don't forget to walk up to the observation tower) then go for... More

It is a very nice, modern museum about nature. Visit in this museum will give you good knowledge and prepare you for visit in 'The Strict Nature Reserve' of Bialowieża forest. In the museum you will see different scenes from life of the forest, explaining the type of forest and species of trees and animals living in it. It's one... More

Interesting, nice and worth visiting! The audio-guide doesn't work properly (the headphones are broken down). There's no synchronization between what you hear and what you see (the light on each scene lights up too late in comparison to what you hear).

Really a great way to learn more about the forest and its inhabitants. They provide an audio tour which guides you through several subjects, varying from the soil and the trees, to the animals and the influence of mankind, all combined with beautiful displays.

Children can learn a lot about the forest there. And the adults as well. Museum is modern but could be a little bit more friendly. Lacks some more places to sit during visiting like benches or chairs. And visiting time could be more elastic. Anyway worth seeing.

Things go terribly wrong inside the museum. It's rather an "interactive" presentation of the forest and its inhabitants, which perhaps was modern... but some 15 years back. You are rushed by an idiotic system from one station to another which makes you more and more annoyed every 2-3 minutes. By the time you finish, you are so angry you need... More

As i heard that its a place that is worth to come and visit if you are in the area, I found out that its not really a museum that you stroll around and enjoy your time but go as a group with other people ( have to ) as you walking by the stations with headphones from the place... More
