I think the alter piece is interesting but frankly not worth the hype given it. The rest of the church is dark and unremarkable. There is a big rush of people at 11:50 to see the opening of the alter piece, but it is better...More

Wow......the opening of the alter was incredible; you need tickets ahead time--but well worth it.....and it is a beautiful basilica

We visited this church with our kids. It is beautiful but not something special. The most interesting thing is the trumpeter. He plays every one hour a simple melody in the four directions.

Beautiful inside and out. A bit wonky to buy tickets, it's on the side of the main entrance - so most people just go in through the "prayers only" entrance - and that's pretty rude. To take pictures, you need to pay an extra 5zl...More

St Mary's Basilica is a very beautiful church but you must make sure you witness the opening of the altar at 11.50am. You can obtain tickets from the ticket office just opposite, queue up at 11.15 and they let you in at 11.25am. Everyone proceeds...More

Old church nice view. Every hour someone plays trumpet from the top of church. Music suddenly stops. But this is not mistake. ;) This connected to the history back dated in 12th century. When Mongols conquered the half of the world. They came to Poland...More

I don't even want to post pictures because you need to see it for yourself. I walked in and was immediately in awe. I am Buddhist but this church was so incredibly jaw droppingly beautiful. So overwhelmed by it's massive size, very huge but you...More

A lovely building from the outside and a bugle plays the last post on the hour ( we think it is recorded as we never saw anyone). You buy a ticket opposite the side entrance to visit the interior and it is very well worth...More

Well worth a visit so beautiful and hauntingly peaceful. (Ladies if you are visiting in summer wear you may be given a shawl to cover up with). We sat for a while and took in the beautiful decor and ornate altar very spiritual.

This is sooo worth the 10Zl you pay to get in, absolutely breathtaking when you walk in. It's a shame they charge you extra to take pictures- and there is security who seem to be solely looking for people who are breaking this rule, which...More

They take a section of the ticket off to avoid people trying this.

The Altar is opened just before noon and, from what I remember the guide saying, it closes just after 17.00. I wanted to see the Altar closed but never managed to return in time. I hope this helps.
