Every third Saturday in month is a perfect time to visit that museum with children, because they can enjoy to ride a small trane and see some trains in a small version (HO) . Over winter time they will stop with that event for children . Last time this year it will be in October , perhaps in the Christmas time(if... More

Ljubljana Railway Museum gives a lovely overview of steam engines and their history in Slovenia. Some of the engines are for show in one building and there is another building with everything connected to railway. We took a bus from Old Town and only 400 metres to walk from the bus station. I had google maps offline map just in... More

Went to the railway museum this morning. It was 3.50 for me to get in as a pensioner. It is situated in a semi circular engine shed for the engines and an exhibition of railway memorabilia opposite. There are about 13 steam engines on show (no diesel or electric) and an excellent exhibition of signalling equipment, and so on. I... More

The museum is OK. It is very hard to find, so get a good map or good directions. There are no directional signs that I could see on the nearby major street which is about two blocks away. You can walk there from downtown or the rail station provided you are in reasonable health. There is a very good exhibit... More

Easily the equal to Steamtown in Scranton, PA which is a Mecca for anyone interested in steam technology ….. but this museum just north of the Ljubljana bus & train station has a selection of beautifully maintained and restored European steam-powered locomotives instead of American examples. As a retired millwright with an interest in the construction and maintenance of vintage... More

Visiting the museum felt like going back to communist era Slovenia - from the clerk giving out the tickets to the decor, everything felt like it had been locked in the 60s. However, the collection of locos was impressive and the clerk actually very helpful in explaining and answering questions. You don't have to like trains to enjoy this as... More

It's a really nice and interesting place to visit. We were there with our 3-year-old son, who loves trains, though it was enjoyable for the adults as well. The station master's office and the communication / signalling sections were outstanding.

We were the only visitors but there was lots to see, both huge restored engines plus many unrestored outside. Staff very welcoming

A very enjoyable experience, especially for a little boy (2 years). Too bad only one of the trains can be climbed on. Presentation could be better - personally, I don't know much about trains, and after the visit I still don't know much.
