There are some really interesting displays here which make the best use of the material. In the basement there is the Roman section with a real section of Roman road which you can see in cross section and also a Roman sewer. As you ascend the stairs the story of the city comes up to date with independence and issues... More

This well designed museum is built on top of a Roman road and house foundations that are hundreds of years old, so you can envision what was there. Other remnants of Emona round out the exhibit, complete with excavated treasures such as the contents of the grave of a Roman woman assumed to be a doctor. The museum also delivers... More

This is modern museum with fresh, vivid collections from old times: prehistoric, antique and new periods till today. They are preparing very interesting exhibitions as about Water in the city. In the summer they also have perfect exhibition – photographs of Sebastiano Salgado. Place is worth of visit each year. They also have fine animations for children, concerts and other... More

We saw a great exhibition of the pictures taken by Sebastiao Salgado. We also saw the Faces of Ljubljana . We could not spend too long as we had a lot planned that day.

Small, well presented museum, showing the highlights of Ljubljana from prehistory to modern era, passing through Roman Emona. As a plus, the ticket allows entrance also to two archeological sites within the old Roman town, showing remnants of a large villa and of an early Christian worship site. In addition, there are many free sites related to Emona still visible... More

The Salgado exhibition is incredible! The photos are of remote places, tribal people, wildlife and beautiful landscapes. The photographs are stunning and the exhibition is very well put together, across the city museum and the Jakopic gallery (just a short walk away). A must see!

We went to this museum because of the Sebastiao Salgado exhibit of photography but got so much more. The permanent exhibit really is about Ljubljana and Slovenia's history starting with the Romans and some archaeological finds--it is better organized than some of the other museums. Very interesting. The Salgado exhibit is world-class. It portrays great animals in the wild, isolated... More

Normally city museums are full of boring material along with interesting objects... City Museum of Ljubljana is a kind of living place. The exhibition style is really cleverly planned and visitor-friendly. "The 2016 European Green Capital" feels itself in every corner whilst you can see the ethnographical identity of the city... Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow! You can feel and learn them... More

Only 6 Euros for an adult and this included a map of the free Roman sites in the city and entry into other museums. The information was presented attractively and intelligently. If you wish to just dip your toe in it's not overwhelming, however, if like myself you want more the various labels and computer screens provide that depth rather... More
