Mestni square is in the centre of the old town and is dominated by the Town Hall - many tours originate here and there are other lovely buildings to admire including the building which is adorned by a bust of Gustav Mahler.
Here you feel like in Vienna or Salzburg. The pale-coloured houses present a grandeur which can be excellently pictured in a composition with the town hall of the Cathedral. And they have some nice shops and bars around that don't misfit in the surrounding.
Really nice part of the old town below the castle, interesting buildings with plenty of shops and cafes in the area, good to sit and watch/meet people. Good atmosphere.

Beautiful Ljubljana square with the major house and Robba's fountain, close to everything. Nice for a walk or people gazing.
