Predjama Castle is situated in the middle of a towering cliff, a mere 9 km from Postojna Cave. Picturesque, magnificent, defiant, mysterious and impregnable, it has been dominating the surrounding area, perched high up in the 123-metre high cliff, for more than 800 years. It is listed among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle in the world. Check the timetable of visits by months.

First of all I must say that this castle is so impressive from the outside as well as from the inside. Getting to know the story using an audio guide was facinating for myself as well as my 3 kids (10 to 17 YO). Well...More

Really great audiotour (for us in Dutch but in lots of languages) so you learn a lot, can play info back or look for a quiet place in the castle to listen to the guide. As the castle is built into the rock it's nice...More

Our first experience of a castle within a cave. We visited as part of a multi-buy ticket when visiting the nearby Postojna Caves. Arrived by the free shuttle bus from the caves (every hour on the hour in summer). The road up to the castle...More

Went to the cave first and then on to here. It's interesting as a small castle in it's own right and the associated cave history adds to it. Find it quite amazing that 500 years ago they managed to build something solid here. Audio guide...More

This interesting castle in a cave is located a short distance away from Postojna caves from which you can get a free shuttle which is included in your ticket for both attractions. Everyone gets an audible guide to follow as you go through the castle....More

Kids loved this. Enjoyed walking round with the audio guides which were free. Quite impressive in how the castle has been built into the cave. Also some interesting historical stories. Good for an hour or so. If you are in the area or have visited...More

We booked the Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle package which included a free shuttle to the cave. We were sorry we book the castle! There were too many people and not enough shuttles. The shuttle runs only every hour, and you have to race other...More

We brought a joint ticket for the caves and then took the shuttle bus (free) to the castle. Glad we did as there wasn't much parking at the castle. The castle is amazing, half in the cave and audio tour was interesting. Lots of stairs...More

Nope, will be easier without the push chair.. very steep stairs at some places. I would say take the audio guide for the interesting stories / information for each place.

Hi, we are doing a day trip from Ljubljana, and want to do the Postonja Caves, Predjama Castle, and Piran. I know we can get a combo ticket for the caves and castle. I was thinking we could get an early start from Ljubljana and hit either the caves or the castle on the way down to Piran, then lunch in Piran, and hit the caves or the castle on the way back to Llubljana (whichever one we didn't see on the way down). Is this too much for one day? How long does it take to tour the castle? Is it guided or self-tour? It looks like the caves take about 2.5 hours, leaving every hour. Any advice about when the caves are most crowded? If we do as described above, would it be better to see the caves in the morning and castle in the afternoon or the other way around? thank you so much for any thoughts on this!

I did all three in one day and yes, it was a long day but worth it! Didn't rush anything and still managed to spend a decent amount of time at the caves and the castle with a few hours in Piran. In hindsight I should have... More

You'll only get to see the outside of it - spend an hour to take a quick trip in it - well worth it!
