Very close to the Gellert Baths. I would definitely recommend a stop here. The church is inside of a cave and has an interesting history. The Pauline monks established it in 1926 but in the late 1950s…under the Communists…the monks were accused of treasonable acts and they were forced to abandon the church and the entrance to the grotto was... For 600 huf about 3. Dollars, you get entrance and audio, we only found this as we had stopped to look at the famous Gellert baths and as we walked off the green bridge, there was this huge cross on the hill. So we walked up and found this little treasure. The audio is really well produced and its great... More

We happened upon this church whilst walking down Gellert Hill. Having not heard of the place we debated whether or not to bother going in. I am so glad we decided to go inside. At less than £2 it's one of the best value for money sights I've ever seen. The church is beautiful and unusual inside, and has such... More

After reading about this Holy Place (after my last visit to Budapest) I am so happy that I had the opportunity to lift my soul by recently visiting.

We went there in the evening when we walked to the Gallert Hill. This church is in my opinion not easy to find. It looks very beautiful. Quiet atmosphere and almost nobody inside give very mysterious experience.

The church is nice and I liked it. But it didn't really have a wow-effect. Also you had to pay for entering and getting the audio guide which didn't work on two of the stations. The information given was way to detailed in my opinion.

Paying to enter a church is the first problem. The second problem are people praying to aliens. Don't visit the Cave Church unless really, really hard-pressed for activities in Budapest.

We stumbled upon this place by accident, but really enjoyed our visit. The entrance fee, which is very reasonable, includes an audio guide which provides a great deal of information about this unique church and its history. It's a lovely tranquil place to visit.

There are a series of little cave chambers to explore, and the commentary on headphones guides you through them, explaining what you are seeing. There is a very peaceful atmosphere throughout the cave church. It felt sacred and special. Would highly recommend, especially if you are staying at the Gellert which is right opposite.
