And that’s not saying a lot. The acoustics are about as bad as listening to a scratchy record inside a tin can. But how any company 2 hours from Vienna can destroy the Magic Flute in 2 acts is really beyond belief. I’ve seen perhaps...More

First off, even though not in city center, the Erkel is convenient. It is a short walk SE of the Keleti train shed where the 2 and 4 metro lines meet. But more to the point, it is a very pleasant performance venue for musical...More

Due to the renovation of the Hungarian State Opera, an opera was acted in Erkel Theatre. There, we sat for a fine performance of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute), an opera performed in Hungarian with subtitles both in Hungarian and English. Gates opened 30 minutes...More

The Erkel theater is located in the 7th district near Keleti railway station. We have seen here the Nutcracker balett performed by the Hungarian State opera and National Balett, which was fantastic. Really nice theatre with great acoustics, comfy seats and great view, drinks a bit pricey but less than what you would pay in UK, Tickets are a great price but book at least a month before you go to avoid disappointment.

We watched the Tosca of Giacomo Puccini on 15/02/2018. Faboulous perfomance (as non expert), great actors and orchestra. The location is nice and shows the importance of culture for hungarians.

The History of this place is amazing. The theatre was built to bring opera to the masses. It's a simple place, but it houses many Operas from the National Opera House and National Theatre. We saw Simon Bocanegra and it was great.

First rate singing." Summer time" was heavenly.Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Prior to the show opening there is a coffee/piano bar across the street for drinks of all kinds and Trappist fine beers.

Plenty on main boulevards 10 minutes away. Not much nearby: the immediate surroundings are not very salubrious.
