This column is situated in the middle of Trinity Square which was named after this column. It is a quite detailed statue which was built to celebrate the end of the plague and hopefully protect the citizens from future plagues. The Holy Trinity sits atop the column with the rest of the column covered in angels and saints. You can't... More

We enjoyed the views of the church and the Column together. The architectural design is beautiful and flawless. This is one of the greatest monuments in Budapest for sure.

St. Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion are the two most visited sights in Budapest, St. Matthias being the most important. They are side by side in the Castle District. As you approach the church, you enter Liberty Square and the Holy Trinity Column is front and center in this square. Built to commemorate the end of the bubonic plague and... More

Nice monument, well located. If you're dropping by the Buda Castle, it may be worth visiting this place too. Just be prepared to climb up a hill.

My little guidebook didn't tell me what I was looking at and most monuments etc. in Budapest don't have an explanatory plaque. I'm sorry now that I didn't know what I was looking at nor how old it was....early 18th century, and fortunately survived the war intact.

This Holy Trinity Column is located in front of Mattheus Church at Buda city. This piece of art has been erected in memory of the plague tragedy known as Bubonic. The minute details are extraordinary on this column and you will find many tourists who take photos of this column. Once there you can continue your walk to Mattheus Church,... More

The beautiful column is in the square outside the Matthias Church by the fisherman's Bastions on Castle Hill. It's a stunning column, and very popular as a resting place, it is well worth a visit in its own right.

The Holy Trinity Column or Plaque Column was erected there to memorise the plaque tragedy in past time. A nine piece of artwork near St. Mathias Church and Fisherman's Bastion. Good tourist spot for phototaking as well.

Close to Mattias church is the Holy Trinity Column, some also called it plague column, built after the plague tragedy. It is a very nice piece of work!

Staying in District I / Buda

Neighbourhood Profile
District I / Buda
The historical center to a city with a multifarious and intricate past, Buda has some of the most outstanding buildings in Europe and an enviable natural landscape with stunning views onto the Danube. Centered around the Royal Palace, it provides a glimpse into the golden years of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the lives led by the aristocracy at the time. Matthias Church, beside the palace, hosted many events attended by the royal family and was the chosen place for the coronation of Franz Josef, one of the Hungarian Habsburg kings. Having admired the palace and the church, a visit to Buda will be unforgettable by the stunning and memorable panorama over Pest offered by the seven towered Fishermen’s Bastion.
