Having lived here for 10 years I would never have thought of visiting this tranquil oasis of Art Nouveau houses built by some of the great architects of the period..1908 to 1925. However it is Christmas 2015 as I write and our carol choir travelled to give a carol concert to the residents gathered beneath a wonderful Chistmas tree in... More

One of many faces of the city. I enjoyed walking along the streets and watching the beautiful and unusual family houses. Every house is different and every one has its own genius loci. The central square with park and church is nice too. I don't think this part of the city is a must for everyone, but I liked it.... More

for fans of art deco/nouveau, this garden city in the suburbs of budapest (and kind of on the way to the airport, with a slight detour) is worth a visit for a peaceful stroll around the artists and planners vision that is the wekerle estate. the central square is filled with buildings longing to be photographed and the streets off... It is a beautiful village in the city. It is a town on its own. It is outstanding, sweet, familiar, calm. A place where birds are waking you up, children are running around and in the night you can still listen to the silence. All of this in a framework of a magnificent architecture. It is a little paradise.

I ventured to this area after reading about it online. It is well worth the effort of getting to it. Built at the beginning of the last century to house white collar workers it was a utopian concept. It seems to have worked. There is a lovely community feeling and the area is just lovely. Did I mention that the... More
