It is by the old town and a good place to do people watch in nice sunny day. There is a good chocolate shop where you can get some nice local chocolate to bring home. I was there in the after noon, I believe it...More

Beautiful Art Nouveau monument to the freedom of Latvia. Tall monument which is visible from many parts of the newer parts of Riga, with nice parks and the canal next to it.

This breathtakingly beautiful monument dates from 1935 and honours soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918–1920). Our tour guide told us that, during the Soviet occupation, it was actually considered for demolition! Fearful of the outcry such an act of vandalism would cause,...More

It was so moving to see this monument dedicated to the brave people of Latvia. We were in the city 4 days and saw the monument often as it was close to our hotel. There were always several pieces of fresh flower arrangements left there...More

Quite an impressive way to enter or leave Old Town, depending on your direction of travel. Good spot for a group photograph. Meaningful tribute to freedom and bravery. The base has reliefs that are a source of great pride for Latvians.

This is a 10 minute walk-by kind of attraction. As far as monuments go, it's simple, clean and quite beautiful - also very tall. It sort of divides Old Riga from the more residential areas to the east. Nice, easy, put it on your check...More

Wandering around the old town of Riga is the obvious thing to do whilst there and a great feature nearby is the Freedom Monument. Its unlikely you will miss it as the monument towers above everything else nearby.

The freedom monument was a beautiful surprise to stumble across during our stay in Riga, learning about the history of the Freedom Monument made it even more special and respectful to the Latvia people. Truly a beautiful sight to experience!

The statue is on a huge pediment, so the details of it cannot be clearly seen. This is a very important place to memorialise the importance of freedom and how hard it is to get it. Sometimes there are flowers in front of the pediment...More
