This is a small private museum, easy to miss, but in the middle of the old town of Riga. There are a handful of rooms showing what life was like under Russian rule in 1990, and, surprisingly , part of a van that was shot...More

I had read about this in a travel guide before visiting and then had seen on trip advisor about restricted opening times. I went around 4.00pm on a Thursday. It is donations only no entry fee. There are about 5 rooms and I spent about...More

I agree very much with Arminius 1's review. As a teacher of History I found the subject matter of this museum both enthralling and incredibly significant for Riga and Latvia. There are some fantastic exhibits here, with video clips of the barricades in different parts...More

I would like to say that this museum is integral to the history of Latvia. Since visiting Riga, I've come to understand the Barricades have an almost mythical place in Latvian history. This museum does a good job focusing on that element of it. Visually,...More

Small museum in the centre of the town. Went there due to the big events. No English information, so not for tourists. Only one sheet of paper with an English introduction.

You might be tempted to overlook this spot (and it's only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays) but I suggest you stop by. It gives you a great feeling both about how confined the people felt during the second half of the 20th century AND how...More

Great examination of the Soviet harassment of Riga in 1991. Only four or five rooms. Piece of paper describes events in detail in English.

The opening times at the doorway are misleading. This museum IS OPEN MONDAY - SATURDAY. Closed Sunday only. Try the door if it appears closed. This museum gives such an important insight into Riga's recent history demonstrating the national loyalty of the Latvian people. For...More

Another good 'proper' museum (by which I mean real objects not inane computer screens), just like all the others I visited. Small but well worth a short visit to find out about how Latvians bravely won their freedom from the USSR. Right in the heart...More
