Jan Zizka was the main leader of the hussit movement. Notice the circles on the sides of this statue. In every circle you can see one year of Zizka's victorious battle!

Visited with the children and took some pictures. As on many of the city centers in Czech Republic the square is where most of the action can be found. In tábor it is a monument for Jan Zizka.

Zizka was clearly a great general, and an important (if sometimes brutal) figure of his time. There's much good information to be had in the Hussite museum in the square. But at the end of the day, it's a statue.....

Overlooking the main square in Tabor the monument gives you a powerful impression of the leadership qualities Jan Zizka had in the leadership of the Hussite forces engaged in a long period of confrontation and battles with the forces of the Pope. His military strategy was...More

There is a long history of subversive practices by artists in Central Europe. David Cerny's European Union sculpture fiasco has a strong historical precedent. Likewise with this innocent looking statue of Zizka. If you stand three metres behind his right shoulder and look up, you'll...More

Lovely town with many historic buildings and beautiful architecture. Loads to see. Jan Zizka is one of the most famous Czechs and definitely worth finding out more about him before you arrive to understand the town.
