Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

I have done all tours that fremantle prison offer, I can honestly say they're all amazing and worth every cent. The best 2 were Tunnel Tour and the Torchlight Tour. With the tunnel tour it recommends you to be physical fit and not to be claustrophobic but I'd take that with a grain of salt, you climb down 3 ladders... More

Fremantle Prison was built by convicts between 1851 and 1859 and now one of 11 World Heritage Site penal sites built by the British Empire. The prison was in continuous use until closed in 1991 and is fully intact. We booked the “Doing Time” and “Great Escapes: tours. Both tours were included information about prison life, hardships, punishment including floggings... More

For those historic lovers, it's one of the must visit place. Learn about its history and view the buildings. It's a waste that I didn't take up the tour.

Second time we've been on the torchlight tour and enjoyed it just as much as the first time! Staff very friendly, knowledgeable and even had a sense of humour. Would highly recommend.

I visited Fremantle Prison expecting a much better maintained version of the prison buildings at the Port Arthur convict settlement. It's quite different, particularly as the prison remained in service until 1991 so the historic buildings have been somewhat compromised by modernisation during the 20th century. Despite that, much of the complex still appears in the same form as the... More

We moseyed up to the prison just in time for the start of the Doing Time tour. The guide was very entertaining, a well rehearsed and experienced guide. Just enough drama and gore to engage the teenagers! A good insight into Australia's colonial and penal past. We wished we had time to also do the Great Escapes tour, or better... More

We've already been to the Port Arthur prison in Tasmania last year so weren't sure whether it would be worth visiting this one but we're glad that we did. It's only $20 per person and includes a tour so compared to many other experiences (like the boat to Rottnest) it's cheap. Our tour guide was really informative and because it... More

My second time "in prison" - this time we took the torchlight tour in the evening. It brought a new perspective to an already very good attraction, highly recommended! Tour guide was very knowledgeable, and fun, but still not forgetting the very dark history of this place. Very educational!
