We started our Akaroa Harbour Nature Cruises back in 1985 and are the original cruise operators so we know the harbour pretty well. Along the way we've been named as the supreme tourism award winner and also hold the Enviro gold award from Qualmark to recognise our dedication to the environment.Your nature cruise will be on the 'Black Cat', a large modern and stable vessel allowing great views of all the scenery and wildlife including dolphins, seals and penguins. If by some chance you do not see dolphins then we will provide a ticket to come again another day. This happens on average 2% of the time across the whole year.We look forward to meeting you and giving you the best stories from the Akaroa Harbour.

We booked a 2hr wildlife watching cruise.from Akaroa and enjoyed every minute of it and I'll remember the dolphins choosing to interact with us for a very long time. (I was wondering who was watching who at one point!) Although we had booked primarily to see the dolphins, the knowledgeable crew also pointed out other wildlife including 2 species of... More

We took a 2 hour afternoon harbor cruise with Black Cat during our day in Akaroa. We had been scheduled to go whale watching from Kaikoura, but because of the 7.8 quake and its lingering damage, our travel agent switched us to Akaroa. So we enjoyed the ride on the high summit road, had lunch in the French settlement town,... More

We went on the 8.30am dolphin swim with our guide, Tara, and skippers, Chris and Danz, all of whom were lovely, friendly and full of information. We only had 5 swimmers in our group which was really nice as it didn't feel crowded. We started off by spotting dolphins around the bay and then when they showed interest, we got... More

Swimming with the Hectors Dolphins, stunning day plenty of Dolphins very enjoyable, fantastic staff. The staff were very informative of the Dolphins and the area, they were very easy to talk to and answered all our questions and a priority was not only the swimmers but the non-swimmers. It was a gorgeous day and the dolphins were everywhere, they swam... More

We booked the Akaroa Harbour Cruise via our cruise ship and we can honestly say this was one of the most magical nature experiences we have had. The habour and wildlife in this part of the world is wonderful. Black Cat Cruise staff were very professional and caring and added to the experience with their thorough knowledge and respect of... Fantastic experience. Chris and Emma took us right out to a good sized pod of dolphins. Spent plenty of time in the water and got heaps of great pics. Big thanks to the guide and skipper!

Went out on an aquatic mammal spotting cruise with Black Cat Cruises from the pier in Akaroa. This was my second time , went in Feb 16 as well. In 2016 the harbour was Dolphin City , hundreds of them , fewer in 2017 , we were told the water was colder in 2017 so they were spending more time... More

As with all nature trips you cannot guarantee seeing what you hope to see. We did see Hectors Dolphins but perhaps not as close up as we would have liked. However also saw bird life and penguins and the commentary was very informative. The harbour and views from the boat are wonderful.

Staff were very friendly, professional and punctual. Well organised. Unfortunately the morning that we went there were only a few dolphins around yet none of them were interested in playing so we did not go swimming with them :( They gave us a 25% refund, yet that's still $120 just to see the dolphins, I think they should give a... I had wanted to see Hector's Dolphins for years ( i am a naturalist ) and the trip didn't disappoint in terms of seeing them . However as these were clearly top of everyone's wish list it would have been great to have stalled the engines when they were nearby so as to tempt them in .Scenery is great but... More
