Absolutely lovely cruise, even with young kids! Better than a big boat

We just had a lovely afternoon cruising with FOX II. We had 3 kids with us (aged 3,5,7y) and at first I was a bit skeptical about it being a smaller, fairly open boat with young... read more

We just had a lovely afternoon cruising with FOX II. We had 3 kids with us (aged 3,5,7y) and at first I was a bit skeptical about it being a smaller, fairly open boat with young kids. However, compared to the other companies with small modern boats, there was plenty of space above deck for the kids to roam, easy... More

The day we were originally booked, the weather meant they had to cancel the trip but Roy was happily able to accommodate us the next day and it was well worth the wait. A lovely setting, great little boat, friendly and very informative captain and crew - plus lots and lots of all the promised wildlife: dolphins, seals, penguins, albatross... More

We went on the Fox 11 as a treat for our wedding anniversary. What it takes to make my wife happy is animals. She came back very happy!!! I loved it when the skipper (a characterful, knowledgable and very likeable guy) told us he was going to play his music and the dolphins would turn up. To confound my cycnicism... More

The Fox 2 is a great way to experience the beauty of the Akaroa harbour and the wildlife in the bay. The crew were incredibly friendly and helpful. We took our two small children along and there were life jackets to fit them and a bucket handy when my son started feeling queasy. (Luckily we left the boat with the... More

What a delightful experience Fox II and it's crew are. Captain Roy provides you with the most interesting historical information, and the loveliest music too. The sailing was so soothing to the soul, and the wildlife is a real treat to see up close. I loved the hot beverage and biscuit (cookie) provided just about when I became a bit... More

What an incredible way to see Akaroa Harbour. We went on the morning trip and there were about 15 people aboard which was the perfect group size. We had room to move all around the boat and lie down in the sun. Captain Roy provided us with lots of interesting facts about the Harbour, the Fox II and the wildlife... More

A lovely boat, a fantastic captain and crew, and the beautiful Akaroa Harbour make for a very special cruise. The tour is beautifully crafted with commentary and music. Three-masted, the Fox II can sail with wind, as well as by motor. A nice size vessel, giving you an intimate experience with the harbour, the dophins, the seabirds and the shoreline.... More

Leaves twice a day from Daly's Wharf in Akaroa The boat is called the Fox 2 after the Fox brothers, built in the 1920s it has an interesting history as a commercial fishing boat etc, it has been owned by Sir Peter Blake among others and is lovely old Ketch.... A wonderful day on the water with a terrific skipper and crew. So much information offered and we saw an abundance of wildlife. The hector dolphins came right up to our boat. If you have the time please consider taking this experience.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your experience. We are fortunate that the Hectors dolphins love the Fox II and they come right along side. We believe they stay and enjoy us as much as we enjoy them because the boat is wooden, non threatening and we sail. Thank you again. Sincerely, Roy Owner/Skipper Fox II... More

Happened upon this trip whilst visiting Akaroa on the last day of our trip in NZ. It was a wonderful end to our holiday. We saw Hectors dolphins by the score, little blue penguins bobbing on the waves, albatross and NZ fur seals along with lots of other birds. Our captain, Roy, was so knowledgeable about geology, history, flora and... More

I am happy you enjoyed your trip. Those are the big four (Hectors dolphins, NZ Fur Seals, little blue penguins and albatross) that we look for. There are tours around New Zealand for each of these, but we are lucky enough to get them all in one trip. I am glad you enjoyed the commentary as well. I hope you... More
