The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

Do take time to visit this magical artists garden. It is fun to walk amongst the giant sculptures and sit to admire the view from various seating areas. Wonderful use of mosaic using artist vision.

The detail and the attention that has been put into each and every object is amazing! Even if you are not a big fan of mosaics you will enjoy this beautiful garden and creativity of the artist. Perfect if your dolphin trip gets cancelled.

Different to almost anything else excepting the works of Gaudi. This whole estate screams broken china assembled into a multitude of abstract people, statues, layouts and even a piano built into terraced gardens busting with flowers of all kinds. The artist, Josie Martin, whilst not...More

Surreal, has to be seen to be believed. I'm unable to give it justice with my words so I won't. If you're in Akaroa don't miss it.

This is a must visit when in the vicinity of Akaroa. 20 years of amazing work by Josie Martin. Hard to believe one person could do all these mosaics.

We didn't really know anything about the Giants House but loved it ... reminded us of Gaudy in Barcelona!

A short walk up the main street is a restaurant called the Little Bistro. Rated number 1 restaurant on tripadvisor and first choice restaurant on Lonely Planet. A must.
