Spent two idyllic nights at Lochmara in the middle of our 4 week New Zealand trip. A great break from out North Island Travels and before our trip round the South Island. Comfortable room with balcony and great views across the bay. Lots of birdlife and the sculpture/art trail was fascinating and enjoyable. Excellent food in restaurant for breakfast, lunch... More

Owing to blisters and bad weather, we skipped the 23km section of the Queen Charlotte Track and boated it across from Mahana Lodge to Lochmara Lodge. We arrived 2 ½ hours early and were not expecting to be able to access our studio but nothing was too much trouble for “Jennie” who welcomed us from the boat, briefed us about... More

Lochmara Lodge was it worth the extra 3km from the track after a long walk from Punga Cove – YES. That last 45 mins from the track is a nice walk and suddenly just when you are about to collapse the entrance appears. We were met by the owners who were very friendly. We stayed in the smallest accommodation on... More

We spent three nights at Lochmara and in hindsight should have stayed for only two nights as we only walked the Queen Charlotte track on one day and ran out of things to do around the resort. Our accommodation was comfortable and we could have taken food options with us to prepare our own breakfasts and snacks. That would have... More

Heaps for all to do from bathing ing the sun, tramping, feeding ears and stingrays or the endangered birds they are breeding. I even experienced a zip line!! Good food also and nicely appointed rooms.

This was an excellent place to stay in the sounds. Right near the water. Families would enjoy it as there are lots of animals for the children to enjoy. Our room was very clean and nice with a balcony looking over the bay. The restaurant was excellent with very pleasant young staff and great food. My only reservation about the... More

What an awesome day out for a family. Absolutely spectacular setting! Lots for our young family to see and do. Our kids loved the animal feeding sessions and informative guide. The water taxi over was another highlight. Only downside was no baby change facility on site which is surprising as it is family friendly. A must visit for the Sounds... More

Lochmara lodge was a welcome rest day for us on our Queen Charlotte Track walk. Great quirky artwork and gardens. The room we had was lovely. The meals were exquisite. We loved our time here and highly recommend it.

The Lochmara lodge is along the Queen Charlotte Track but also a relatively short water taxi ride from Picton. The lodge had a lot of interesting art on the grounds, birds, animals but the highlight was the lovely beach and dining room and lounge.
