Nice captain from our home town. We were off to look at property and had to be back for an auction later in the day. We learnt a lot about the Queen Charlotte Sound from the helmsman come Captain. Easy place to find and parking was close. All information was given at time of booking for parking and times. We went over time but shared the return with a local tradesman. ( great place to work if you like interesting travel and views) So price was just about same as quoted. 15 dollars less. The eftpos machine played up so will take cash next time. You can fill the boat up to 8 people so better than ferry if you have a group . Of people to get around the sounds. Would use again because running your own boat is about the same cost or more Water taxi can go up of beaches and you get back the same way if there is no wharf where you are going. Suggest shorts. Most places have a wharf.

We loved this trip . Whilst it was a bit expensive $NZ 100 we had a four plus hour journey with only seven of us on board. The driver was full of information about all aspects of the Sound. We missed seeing the Orca Whales by minutes unfortunately. We exchanged the mail bags at several stops and it was interesting to hear the stories about who lived where and the cost of owning a holiday bach on the Sounds. The scenery was superb. We stopped at Captain Cook’s landing memorial . In all a very worthwhile trip.

We took a ship's tour on a catamaran all around the Queen Charlotte Sound. It was a gorgeous day and a very well-spent 2-1/2 hours! We motored into different coves, stopped to see some dolphins playing around us, sea-birds posing, along with some fish feeding in the crystal-clear waters, and just had a wonderful time. Picton, itself, has changed quite a bit since we were first here in 2003 - quite grown up in the meantime, but still very friendly and picturesque.

Took the regular boat that visits all the outposts delivering goods and picking up and dropping off passengers. Lovely trip.
