Picton Foreshore Reserve is known as the gateway to the islands and inlets of the Marlborough Sounds. Besides a beach, there is a splash park, pirate playground, a mini-putt putt golf course and lots of shade under the many palm trees. Water activities include bicycling, boating, or kayaking. Nearby are cafes, bars, restaurants, and museums. Great place to unwind.

We were lucky to have been here for a sailing to Wellington on a good autumn day. Picton township provided some nice coffee and a place to stretch our legs after a drive in. Certainly a picturesque part of the country and taking the Cook Strait ferry gave a birds eye view from the sea.
Waikawa Bay was a nice spot a short drive from Picton for a picnic lunch.

It is a gateway to the Islands and Inlets of the Marlborough Sounds which is a collection of ancient sunken river valleys.

What a beautiful and peaceful place. We spent time just sitting at the port watching the ferries come and go. Plenty of photo opportunities. This is one of those Wow places. We loved this place and we will go back one day.

Picton has a nice harbour area to walk around and it is definitely worth it to make your way up to the lookout areas in order to get a great view of the area (and watch the ferries arrive)

When approaching the town of Picton from Queen Charlotte Drive, the elevated view of the harbor is stunning. Equally stunning is the view of the harbor from London Quay in the city center. Visitors can pass through the archway of an impressive war memorial and down the steps, to a red brick walkway which leads directly to the wharf and Foreshore Beach, with the beautiful blue waters of the Sound beyond.

This area has plenty of spots to take great photos, the views are spectacular. Picton because of the inter Island Ferry does get busy when the ferry arrives, however, this soon disappears and you get sucked back into the views and the slower pace

Picton Sound, a picturesque backdrop with a stunning landscape and a vibrant marina that also happens to be the main link between the South and North Islands.
The majestic manoeuvring of the large commercial ferries is amazing to watch from the observation lookout from above.

Hi I am cruising into Picton on 2 March (dock 12 midday) with my 90 year old mother who is quite able. I am looking for a driving tour to a couple of wineries and scenery just a few hours. Any suggestions please?
